[ACLU-CU ALERT] Support needed for marriage equality

a legislative priority.

Hi,
The Religious Freedom and Civil Union Act (HB1826) is being considered
by the Illinois House.  There is a good chance that the bill will be
voted on within the next couple of weeks before the spring session
ends.  The bill will grant same-sex couples the same legal rights as
marriage.  We are getting closer to having enough votes to pass the
bill. 
 
Equal Marriage Illinois Champaign County is asking for your help in
contacting your representative and getting the word out to others about
the bill.  There are a few things you can do that would be extremely
helpful:
 
1.Send a fax to your representative, through the Illinois ACLU website:

This is very easy.  All you have to do is fill in your address and
their system will send the fax for you.  You can personalize the
message if you want.
 
Many of you who live in Savoy, the west part of Champaign, east of
Urbana, and elsewhere in the area are represented by people who are
undecided on this bill.  Those who are represented by Naomi Jakobsson
can ask her to sign on as a co-sponsor of the bill.  Please let them
hear from you!!
 
2. If you have time, please call or email your State Representative and
explain that you support this bill and want them to vote for it.  To

3. Forward this message to family members, friends, and colleagues who
may support the bill.  Ask anyone who may be supportive, not just
people you know are supportive.
 
4. If you're attending a gathering where there may be supportive
people, please ask individuals to sign a form letter in support of the
bill.  Paper or electronic copies are available by emailing Rod Githens
(githens at uiuc.edu).  Return the letters to Rod and we can fill in the
legislator's name and pay the postage on the letter.
 
5. Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper.
