The Illinois Civil Union Bill (HB 1826) has a very good chance of passing in the next several months. ACLU of Champaign County is a member of Equal Marriage Illinois Champaign County which is focusing on arranging meetings with undecided legislators representing parts of Champaign County. As of now, Representatives Black, Cultra, and Rose have not publicly indicated their support for the bill. These three individuals represent significant portions of Champaign, rural Champaign, rural Urbana, and almost all of the other areas in our county.Legislators consistently say that in-person visits are the most effective way to get their attention. A meeting with a legislator may sound intimidating, but it’s actually just a simple conversation with the person elected to represent your interests in Springfield.Equal Marriage Champaign County has developed a concise instruction sheet to explain how to arrange a meeting. This site also has a link to another site that will identify your State Representative by address if you are not sure if you live in Black's, Cultra's or Rose's districts.

Thank you for your help with this effort.
