[ACLU-CU ALERT] ACLU Programs in February

At the end of this month, two programs about civil liberties issues will be presented here in Champaign-Urbana. 1.  ACLU of Illinois' Executive Director, Colleen Connell, will be our special guest at Champaign County ACLU's forum: Talking Back to the First Amendment:  A Community Forum on Free Speech and Hate SpeechThursday, February 28 - 7:30 p.m.University of Illinois Law School Auditorium504 E. Pennsylvania, Champaign. This event, which is co-sponsored by the Law School Chapter of ACLU is free and open to the public.2.  Champaign County ACLU is a co-sponsor of the Channing-Murray Foundation's Social Justice Forum: "The Lord Was Not on Trial" - A Discussion on Separation of Church and State IssuesWednesday, February 27th  7:30pmChanning-Murray Foundation1209 W. Oregon St., UrbanaDannel McCollum, former Mayor of Champaign, will discuss his mother's successful case against the Champaign School District that resulted in the 1948 U.S. Supreme Court decision banning mandatory school prayer. Refreshments will be served.  Free and open to the public. AND, please mark your calendar for Champaign County ACLU's annual meeting on Sunday, April 6 at 11:30 a.m.
Bob McChesney of Media Matters on NPR will be the speaker.   The event will again be at the Great Impasta restaurant in downtown Champaign.  Registration information will be in the chapter newsletter and on our web site next month.
