Please note these two upcoming events:
1. City of Champaign will be holding a forum to address Police-Community Relations and Youth Issues on Monday, March 15 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the Hawthorne Suites, 101 Trade Center Drive, Champaign.
Space is limited so people wanting to attend are asked to register by this Wednesday, March 10. Call the Community Relations Office at 217-403-8830 to register.
Attendees will work in small groups, identify issues, address pre-identified focus questions, share thoughts with other forum participants and develop ides for workable solutions.
If you live in City of Champaign, please consider registering to attend this forum.
The forum is co-sponsored by Champaign City Council, Human Relations Commission and Community and Police Partnership, by Champaign Unit 4 School District and by State Senator Michael Frerichs and State Representative Naomi Jakobsson.
2. Champaign County ACLU annual meeting:
Sunday, April 11
Milo's Restaurant, 2870 S. Philo Road, Urbana
11:00 a.m. Doors open
11:30 a.m. Brunch served $25 per person
12:15 p.m. Annual meeting - election of officers, awards and speaker
Speaker: Coleen Rowley, former FBI agent, whistleblower and active opponent of the use of torture in investigations. In 2002, Rowley was one of three women chosen by TIME magazine as "Person of the Year." She testified before the U.S. Senate and before the 9/11 Commission about FBI failures related to the September 11, 2001 attack. She retired from the FBI in 2004 after 24 years with the agency.
Reservations are required for the brunch and will be available on-line at our web site www.aclu-cu.org or by U.S. mail -- look for the reply form in the spring newsletter which will be mailed later this month.
