October 7 at 7pm at The Art Theater / 126 W Church in Champaign

“The Lord is not on Trial Here Today” tells the compelling personal story
behind one of the most important First Amendment cases in U.S. Supreme Court
history, the case that set the foundation for the separation of church and
state in public schools – and it all started here in Champaign.  The film recounts the personal story of  Vashti McCollum – the mother at the center of
the storm – who later described her ordeal as "three years of headlines,
headaches, and hatred." This legal struggle resulted in a landmark
decision that still resonates today.   

   

Filmmaker Jay Rosenstein has agreed to
donate a portion of the proceeds of this premiere showing  to the Roger Baldwin Foundation of the
American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois.
