Freedom to Read: Ethnic Studies Under Fire

SATURDAY October 20th
Champaign-Urbana Citizens for Peace and Justice (CUCPJ)  is organizing the 9th Annual Unity March on October 20. People will assemble at the County Courthouse  in downtown Urbana at noon for a program of speakers from various sectors of the community. After the program the march will proceed to the satellite jail near Brookens (1776 E. Washington) in East Urbana. The theme for this year's march is "Alternatives to Incarceration."  The local ACLU Chapter is a co-sponsor of the march.

Panel of Immigrants will Share Their Stories

FRIDAY October 26th
Jose Antonio Vargas - Define America: Immigration in the 2012 Election
Noon - 1pm
University YMCA, 1001 S Wright St.
Friday Forum at University Y. Vargas is a Pulitzer Prize Winner and undocumented immigrant from the Philippines. This lecture is part of the University YMCA's fall series, Beyond the Rhetoric: Key Issues in the 2012 Elections.
