"How to Die in Oregon"
Tuesday, September 10 - 7:00 p.m.
The Art Theater - 126 W. Church St., Champaign
This free film is sponsored by the local chapter of Compassion & Choices

ACLU and Compassion and Choices are partners statewide and locally in a campaign to pass legislation expanding choices for terminally ill patients. Nine states and D.C. have adopted laws allowing a physician to prescribe a lethal dose of a sedative to a person who is diagnosed with no more than 6 months to live, has made 3 requests for the medication and is deemed to be mentally competent to make the decision. The law also provides that the terminal illness, not "suicide" is listed on the death certificate as cause of death.

Similar legislation might be introduced in Illinois as early as next January. This free film provides a compelling view of how the law is working in Oregon, the first state to adopt a death with dignity law back in 1997.
