ACTION ALERT: REPEAL THE DANGEROUS PARENTAL NOTICE OF ABORTION ACT

Parental Notice of Abortion is dangerous for youth in the state, violates their human rights, and threatens their health and safety.  Please send a message to your state legislators urging them to support HB 1797 (SB 2190 in the Senate) which will repeal Parental Notice of Abortion (PNA).

Background:   This week, ACLU of Illinois released a new report in collaboration with Human Rights Watch – "The Only People It Really Affects Are the People It Hurts”: The Human Rights Impacts of Parental Notice of Abortion in Illinois”<https://www.aclu-il.org/en/publications/only-people-it-really-affects-are-people-it-hurts-human-rights-consequences-parental> – looking at the myriad harms of the law for youth in our state. A researcher for Human Rights Watch interviewed 37 people – including health care providers, pro bono attorneys, Judicial Bypass Coordination Project hotline volunteers, and youth advocates – about how the law effects the young people who are forced to navigate an unfamiliar court system or involve an unsupportive family member in their abortion decision. The report also examines information collected by ACLU’s Judicial Bypass Coordination Project about young people who have gone through the judicial bypass process.
