Greetings to  all on our local Champaign County ACLU announce list



We wanted to tell you of two immediately upcoming Police and Court Reform
sessions, one tonight on line and the other tomorrow in person.



*1.    **HOW DOES THE ACT TO END CASH BAIL STAND UNDER AN ILLINOIS SUPREME
COURT CHALLENGE?  Virtual*



Tonight is an update to the status of these trail-blazing reforms now in
Illinois Supreme Court to stop it from going into effect. The virtual
teach-in starts at seven: “*The Legal Challenge to the Pretrial Fairness
Act.”*

Additionally, as of last week, the Illinois Network for Pretrial Justice

than 400 signers filed an amicus brief

supporting the Pretrial Fairness Act (note that ACLU Illinois helped
spearhead this initiative). Throughout the amicus brief, the authors
highlighted the ways in which wealth-based incarceration has devastating
impacts on the people incarcerated and their families, leading to job loss,
housing instability, damage to family and community relationships, and lack
of physical and mental health care.





*2. THE POLICE DATA PROJECT – In person Wednesday Feb 1 7PM at the
Independent Media Center in Urbana 202 S Broadway in the Post Office
Building*



The Invisible Institute Team is a non-profit journalism initiative in South
Chicago.

On *Wednesday, February 1st at 7PM they are hosting an event at the
Independent Media Center* to unveil the data tool and provide space for you
all to use it and ask questions. There will be time allotted for a walk
through of the tool and breakout groups with the team to dig deep into the
data.



This event will be family friendly and have snacks and drinks provided. We
would love for you all to come, and bring your friends & others who may be
interested in this work. If you plan to invite other people, please let me
know so that we can account for the proper headcount. Please RSVP at this
