From announce at aclu-cu.org Mon Mar 18 14:16:47 2024 From: announce at aclu-cu.org (Champaign County ACLU Announcements) Date: Mon, 18 Mar 2024 13:16:47 -0500 Subject: [ACLU-CU ALERT] Fwd: Witness Slips Needed for HB 4781 In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Good afternoon members and friends on the ACLU local list Please consider supporting this bill with a witness slip (content and procedure below), NOT as ACLU but as yourself-- IF of course, on due consideration you agree. The bill offers more support for family relatives caring for a child who might otherwise be in foster care. DCFS referred to below is the Department of Children and Family Services Once you have filed your first witness slip, whether for this or later, you will find it is easy to do again. Witness slips DON"T mean you want to testify, but you need only check the box Record of Appearance Only and our reps will know you do or don't support a given bill. So it is a handy civic tool. Even if you know that a given representative does support a bill you favor, weighing in matters. I can remember cases in earlier years where a legislator supporting a bill was taking heat for doing so, and it helped to know that voters did want it. Or didn't, for that matter. If your vote matters, then think about this tool as a vote between one election and the next. As you know, we have started a monthly newsletter, but this issue came up before our early April issue is due. ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Ed Yohnka Date: Mon, Mar 18, 2024 at 12:01?PM Subject: Witness Slips Needed for HB 4781 To: Ed Yohnka To all, We need your help with witness slips in Springfield this week. *HB 4781* ? the KIND Act ? has been assigned to the Illinois House Adoption & Child Welfare Committee which will meet on Wednesday, March 20 at 2 PM.
