Hurray for everyone who came out to protest in Urbana on June 14!
 
This was an epic national protest that sent a powerful message! In Illinois, there were over 40 protests in response to the escalating threats to our rights and democratic institutions. We have to keep building on this momentum. It’s critical for us to be out in the streets peacefully demanding that this administration respect the rule of law and submit to the checks and balances that have kept our democracy going for over two centuries. We did it on June 14 and we will have to do it again and again so don’t recycle those signs yet.

WE NEED TO KEEP SPEAKING OUT EVERYWHERE, EVERY DAY!
Our government is doing so many things all at once that skirt the rule of law, that ignore checks and balances, and that overreach the authority of the executive branch. We are seeing efforts nationwide to silence dissent, punish political opponents, undermine the role of the courts, target immigrants and communities of color, and much more. We have to speak up and speak out! And keep speaking out! To help, the ACLU of Illinois has created a website <https://www.aclu-il.org/en/news/speaking-out-against-abuse-power> with talking points and resources about ABUSE OF POWER and what you can do. Please share it!

If you witness ICE arresting people in your community, please report it to the ICIRR (Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights) hotline at 1-855-435-7693. Please do NOT report rumors.
 
TRANSGENDER CARE FOR MINORS – LEGAL, PROTECTED, AVAILABLE in ILLINOIS
On June 18 the Supreme Court of the United States issued a divided opinion that allows the State of Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming medical care for youth under eighteen to be enforced. In Illinois, gender-affirming care for youth and adults is available, legal, and protected.
  
No one should be confused by any headline around this ruling: gender-affirming care is life-saving healthcare, and it remains safe and legal for youth and adults in Illinois. If you or someone you love is currently receiving or needs gender-affirming care in Illinois, it will not be affected by this Supreme Court decision.
 
Over the past few years, families, activists, advocates, and legislators in Springfield have worked to ensure that gender-affirming care is legal and available to all patients in Illinois. We have also put in place legal protections for health care providers who offer this care to their patients. Trans rights are under attack in many places around the country. In Illinois, we are doing everything we can to protect and provide access to this important healthcare.
