<DIV class=RTE>Petitions have been filed for a statewide referendum to amend the Illinois Constitution to prohibit same-sex marriage. The proposed amendment could also be a basis for prohibiting state government from providing domestic partner benefits for same-sex couples.</DIV>
<DIV class=RTE> </DIV>
<DIV class=RTE>Illinois ACLU is working with Equality Illinois and the local C-U At the Altar to examine the petitions for unregistered voters' signatures and other irregularities. If enough signatures on the petitions can be successfully challenged, the question will not appear on the November ballot. So far, we are finding lots of signatures of people who are not registered to vote. But, we have hundreds of petitions to review.</DIV>

<DIV class=RTE>If you have even one hour to devote to this effort, your time will be well spent. If you have a lap top computer, please bring it along. If you don't, that's okay. Volunteers are paired and each pair needs one computer to check the signatures. Refreshments will be provided.</DIV>
