<p>This week the Keeping Youth Safe and Healthy Act was signed into law. This is a critical step forward to improve sexual health education for students. The new law updates and adds standards for teaching sex education, so that Illinois schools providing this

<p>Several years ago, the ACLU of Illinois worked on a law that ended the teaching of abstinence-only sex education in Illinois. We knew there was more work to do. The Keeping Youth Safe and Healthy Act creates personal health and safety standards for grades
K-5 and expands comprehensive sexual health education standards for grades 6-12. The new law ensures that the personal health and sexual health education taught in our state is comprehensive and inclusive. And addresses the reality that too many students in
Illinois have been stigmatized and or made invisible in these courses, such as LGBTQIA+ students and pregnant and parenting students.</p>

<p>This new law is necessary to make sure students have the information and tools they need to be safe, and to support responsible and informed decision-making about their health and well-being throughout their lives. To help spread this message, we worked
with a group of students who created and designed a zine to provide information and tools to other students.</p>
