[ACLU-CU ALERT] Fwd: Witness Slips on Personal Privacy

Champaign County ACLU Announcements announce at aclu-cu.org
Fri Mar 26 09:33:00 EDT 2021

Happy Friday All –

We know it has been a busy week, and really appreciate all of
your efforts to file witness slips in support of key legislation in
Springfield designed to protect and expand civil liberties. We have one
more.

Today at 2:00 p.m. the Illinois House Judiciary – Criminal
Committee will consider House Bill 2553, the Protecting Household Privacy
Act (PHPA). PHPA places modest parameters on law enforcement when it seeks
to collect and use of electronic data gathered by household devices. This
bill is being filed in response to the explosion of household devices –
Alexa, Ring doorbells, etc. – that capture great volumes of personal
information about us and everyone in our homes.

          Please go *here
<https://www.aclu-il.org/en/take-action-protect-household-privacy>* and
fill out a witness slip as a PROPONENT of this bill, filing a RECORD OF
APPEARANCE ONLY. When you are asked for representation or firm and title,
feel free to simply enter SELF.

Thanks again for all your help this week, and feel free to reach
out with any questions.
