Dear ACLU Members,

The Illinois General Assembly is meeting (virtually) this week and we have
a request for witness slips for three bills that are set to be heard in
committee later *today*, that we are *OPPOSED* to. Legislators need to hear
from you.

Please fill out these witness slips before 5PM, and *remember to file as
SELF, not as the ACLU. *

*SB 3070* -The bill dangerously adds an enhanced penalty – with a longer
prison sentence – for someone who attacks a DCFS worker. While we want all
state workers, including caseworkers at DCFS, to be safe, penalty
enhancements help fuel mass incarceration but do not reduce attacks on
workers.

Make your voice heard by marking yourself as an *OPPONENT* of SB 3070

.

*SB 2931 *This bill also adds enhanced penalties for a person convicted of
committing an assault or battery against an election judge. While we
understand the importance of ensuring the safety of the dedicated workers
who administer our elections, increasing the severity of sentences does
little to reduce crime.

Make your voice heard by marking yourself as an *OPPONENT* of SB 2931

.

*HB 3621 *This legislation would extend the statute of limitations for
drug-induced homicide from 3 years to 10 years. More drug-induced homicide
prosecutions and convictions will not protect Illinoisans from fatal drug
overdoses, but will only make a tragic situation even worse.

Make your voice heard by marking yourself as an *OPPONENT* of HB 3621
