Friends –

The results of this week's election leave us with a sense of disbelief and
angst. Donald Trump is a threat to basic civil liberties. At the ACLU of
Illinois, we saw that threat up close – from standing with many of you at
O'Hare International Airport after his first Muslim Ban to protesting after
the first child identified under his family separation policy was flown
from the California border to Chicago.

We fought back as part of a lawsuit against ICE's devastating, racially
biased raids in our communities, filed a lawsuit to reform the Chicago
Police Department after the Trump administration's Department of Justice
dropped the investigation, sued to protect access to gender-affirming care,
and passed Illinois' Reproductive Health Act because we knew what was at
stake if Trump-appointed justices struck down Roe.

*We are committed to enhancing and enforcing a firewall of protections in
Illinois to limit the inevitable harm that will flow from the new
administration's attacks.* The ACLU never shied away from challenging
Trump's reckless disregard for the Constitution during his first
administration. We are prepared to do the same this time.
